Coal Faces Changing Places by Roger Tiley
Images taken in the 1980s, pre 1984/85 strike, during and after. An amazing collection of photographs documenting life in the 1980s around the collieries situated in the Gwent valleys. Many of the photographs were taken at the Celynen South colliery, showing the everyday life of miners, many of whom, Roger Tiley was in school with. There are also images of a private mine Roger visited and he captures the very different life at a small drift mine where pit ponies were still used to haul the coal drams. Tiley also gained full access to the soup kitchens, NUM meetings and the picket lines during the 1984/85 miners' strike and the sebsequent closure of all the pits in the area, where he grew up. These graphic images are an historic collection recording life in the coal mines in the South Wales valleys during the 1980s. Coal Faces Changing Places
